The short version
GiftChemistry does not have user accounts, does not process orders, and does not have a comment section or a contact form. The site does provide an email address if you want to reach us — see "Emailing us" below. Beyond that, there isn't much personal data for this site to collect.
What this site stores on your device
Your light/dark theme preference (the toggle in the top bar) is saved in your browser's local storage, on your own device. GiftChemistry does not transmit this preference anywhere or read it back from any server — it just stays in your browser until you clear your browser data.
Hosting and standard technical request data
This site is served by Netlify, a hosting provider. Like most web hosts, Netlify automatically processes standard technical request data for every visit — things like IP address, device and browser type, and request timestamps — as a normal part of serving pages and keeping the infrastructure secure. This happens at the hosting layer; GiftChemistry does not separately collect, store, or analyze this data beyond what Netlify's own infrastructure handles to serve the site.
Fonts loaded from Google
This site loads its typefaces (Fraunces and Karla) from Google Fonts' servers rather than hosting the font files itself. When your browser requests those fonts, Google receives the technical information needed to fulfill that request — your IP address, the URL requested, and standard browser request headers. GiftChemistry does not control what Google does with that request data; see Google's own documentation for how it handles Google Fonts API traffic.
Emailing us
If you choose to email hello@giftchemistry.com, your email address, the content of your message, and related technical information (such as delivery metadata) are handled by our email provider, Porkbun, in order to deliver the message to us. GiftChemistry uses that information to read, reply to, and otherwise process your message. We don't have a fixed retention period to promise you, and email is not an inherently confidential or encrypted channel — please don't send sensitive information (passwords, financial details, etc.) by email. We don't share your email with third parties for marketing purposes.
Advertising, tracking, and analytics
GiftChemistry still does not have Netlify Web Analytics, Google Analytics, advertising, or marketing trackers of any kind enabled on this site, and has not added any cookies or tracking pixels of its own in order to run the Amazon affiliate links described below. There are no ad networks on this site. If that changes in the future, this page will be updated first, before the change goes live, to describe what's being added and why.
Affiliate and purchase links
GiftChemistry participates in the Amazon Associates programmes for the United States, United Kingdom, Australia and Japan, which provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by linking to Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.com.au and Amazon.co.jp. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
Clearly labelled, optional Amazon US product-search links currently appear beside some Gift Finder recommendation cards on the home page and beside selected ideas in two articles: Lower-Risk Gifts When You Don't Yet Know Someone's Preferences and Near or Far: Grandparents Day Gifts That Don't Add More Stuff. Clearly marked Amazon UK links appear in the UK Gift Finder and its Grandparents’ Day guide. Clearly marked Amazon Australia links appear in the Australia Gift Finder and its Grandparents Day guide. Clearly marked Amazon.co.jp links appear beside selected cards in the Japan Gift Finder; the twelve Japanese articles remain link-free. Some recommendations intentionally have no shopping link. Where affiliate links do appear, that's disclosed on the page itself and in more detail on our Affiliate Disclosure page. If you follow one of these links and make a qualifying purchase, GiftChemistry may earn a commission, at no extra cost to you.

GiftChemistry does not set any cookie or tracking script on this site in connection with these links. Once you click through to an Amazon marketplace, Amazon's own site sets whatever cookies or tracking it uses on its own domain, in order to record the referral and pay a commission if you buy something — GiftChemistry does not control that and does not receive any browsing or purchase data back from Amazon beyond the commission report in our own Associates account.
